Study in Australia
Overview: What you need to get right from day one
Studying in Australia is a big move—and if you’re applying from the UAE, the pressure is real. You’re managing deadlines, documents, and visa rules from overseas, often while juggling school or work. The good news: when your plan is clear and your file is consistent, Australia becomes one of the most straightforward destinations to apply for.
At Stanford Global Education, our UAE-based counsellors support students with the full journey—from choosing the right course and university to building a visa-ready application that meets Australia’s legal requirements.
Overview: What you need to get right from day one
Most delays (and avoidable refusals) happen for predictable reasons: the course choice doesn’t match the student’s background, financial evidence is unclear, or the story in the application doesn’t “add up.”
Australia’s Student Visa (Subclass 500) is designed for genuine full-time study. You must hold a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), and meet visa conditions—including work limits while your course is in session.
Educational Consultants in UAE can help guide you through the process of selecting the right Australian institution, understanding visa requirements, and ensuring a smooth transition to study abroad.

Why study in Australia from the UAE?
A qualification employers recognise worldwide
Australian universities are respected globally, and many programs are built with practical assessment styles—projects, case work, labs, placements, and industry-aligned learning.
Work rights that support real life (without risking your visa)
Most student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight when their course is in session, and typically can work unlimited hours during scheduled breaks. Research students may have different rules once the course has started.
A clear visa pathway that rewards preparation
Australia now uses the Genuine Student (GS) requirement (replacing the older GTE requirement) for Student Visa applications lodged on or after 23 March 2024. Your answers must clearly show why you chose the course, why Australia, and how this fits your academic and career direction.
Top universities in Australia (and how to choose wisely)
Australia has prestigious research universities and excellent teaching-focused institutions. The “best” university isn’t always the highest-ranked—it’s the one that fits your goals, budget, and academic profile.
Common UAE student choices include:
- University of Melbourne
- Monash University
- University of Sydney
- UNSW Sydney
- Australian National University (ANU)
Our advice goes beyond lists. We look at course structure, city lifestyle, graduate outcomes, and entry requirements—then help you apply strategically.
Is IELTS mandatory for Australia?
Not always. IELTS is popular, but many institutions accept alternatives like PTE Academic and TOEFL iBT, depending on your program. Requirements vary by course level and university, so the smartest move is to confirm your exact target scores before booking a test—especially if you’re applying close to an intake deadline.

Costs and financial proof for the Student Visa (Subclass 500)
Australia expects students to budget responsibly—because the visa decision relies heavily on financial clarity.
A key update: for visas lodged on or after 10 May 2024, the financial capacity amount for an individual student is AUD $29,710 (living costs benchmark), in addition to tuition and travel considerations.
Also note the visa fee update: from 1 July 2025, the Student Visa (Subclass 500) visa application charge for a primary applicant increased to AUD $2,000 (with limited exceptions).
Student Visa (Subclass 500) process from the UAE: step-by-step
1) Choose your course and receive an offer
We shortlist courses that match your academic history and career direction—because course mismatch is a common refusal trigger.
2) Secure your CoE
You’ll pay the required deposit and meet the institution’s conditions to receive your CoE.
3) Arrange OSHC (health insurance)
OSHC is required for the duration of your stay (unless you’re exempt). We help you choose the right policy length and coverage start date.
4) Prepare your GS responses and supporting evidence
Your GS answers should read like a truthful, logical explanation—not a template. We help you connect your past study, course choice, and future plan in a way that makes sense.
5) Lodge online via ImmiAccount and complete biometrics (if requested)
The Department of Home Affairs uses biometrics in many cases, and VFS Global is contracted to provide biometric collection services where required.
6) Submit early and keep your file consistent
As of 14 November 2025, Student Visa processing priorities are handled under a new ministerial direction for applications lodged from that date, so submitting a complete, well-prepared application early matters even more.
UAE document readiness: don’t ignore attestation and verification
If your documents need to be used outside the UAE (for universities, authorities, or formal processes), MOFAIC attestation is the UAE government procedure used to confirm the validity of seals and signatures. This is often the step that slows students down—so we plan it early as part of your intake timeline.
