People searching for a Europe visa from Dubai usually mean a Schengen visa for short visits to the Schengen Area. Your passport nationality decides whether you need one; UAE residence lets you apply from here but does not give visa-free entry.

Applications go through an embassy, consulate or an authorised centre — VFS Global, BLS International or TLScontact. A uniform Schengen visa is normally valid across all 29 Schengen countries, within its permitted entries and stay.

Requirements vary by nationality, destination and purpose. Most applicants need the following.

• Passport — issued within 10 years, valid three months beyond your Schengen departure, two blank pages
• UAE residence evidence — residence visa and Emirates ID where requested
• Form and photographs — signed destination-country form and compliant biometric photographs
• Insurance and travel evidence — travel insurance of €30,000 minimum, plus flight and accommodation evidence
• Financial and employment proof — bank statements and an employment letter, NOC or trade licence
• Supporting letters — cover letter and invitation or sponsorship documents if relevant

Apply through your principal destination — normally where you stay longest on multi-country trips. If stays are equal, apply through the country entered first.

Standard official processing normally takes 15 calendar days after a complete application is lodged and may extend to 45 days for further checks. Appointment waiting time is separate. Submit no earlier than six months and at least 15 days before travel.

Preparation reduces errors but cannot guarantee approval. These are the problems we see most often in files brought to our Dubai office.

• Wrong destination country — applying through a consulate that is not your principal destination
• Inconsistent dates — missing documents, or travel dates that do not match the bookings
• Unexplained funds — sudden deposits, or a balance that does not fund the trip described
• Weak UAE ties — thin employment, business or family evidence tying you to the UAE
• Mismatched bookings — insurance, hotel or flight details that contradict the itinerary
• Unaddressed refusal — resubmitting the same file after a refusal without answering its reasons
